Empowering Armenia’s Children Affected by War

Supporting Affected Families Through Direct Cash Transfers.

Studies show that just giving people money in the aftermath of disasters is more effective than many forms of interventions.

During the chaos that dominates the post war period in Armenian and Artsakh, it’s usually tough for charities to manage donor expectations and serve vulnerable populations effectively.

Our vision is to support Armenia’s children affected by war by giving their vulnerable families unconditional cash transfers through a pilot program to affect wide-ranging positive impacts.

Benefits for affected families

  • frees parent to use the money as they choose, unlike targeted aid such as food and non food items that international aid agencies have been distributing

  • benefits stay-at-home parents, who are often bypassed by work-oriented programs like child care.

It is Our Collective Responsibility to Respond

Children that lived through the 2020 Nagorno-Karabagh conflict have not given up on their dreams and futures.

About the name New Bird’s Nest Project

After World War I , Maria Jacobsen - a committed Danish Missionary - gathered more than 4000 Armenian orphans from different parts of the Ottoman Empire with the support of the Near East Relief Foundation and gave them shelter in an orphanage she named Birds’ Nest in Lebanon.

Today, we feel we need a “New Bird’s Nest” project.  We call it a “project” because our aim is to prove its concept and eventually make it a permanent fixture of social policy in Armenia.

“We want to protect and stand with the vulnerable victims of the war and injustice in Armenia”
